Adoro nomes italianos!
Procurei a legislação italiana e encontrei isto:
Hello, I can't speak Portuguese so I'm going to write in English.
EliminarThere is no law that regulates foreign names. Basically, you can name your child whatever you want, as long as it's not offensive or of the opposite sex.
There used to be a law that forbade the use of the name Andrea on girls, as it's a male name in Italian. If you wanted to name your daughter Andrea you had to add a second, clearly feminine name, like Andrea Giulia, or Andrea Sara etc. That law has since been abolished, so now it is possible for Italian parents to name their daughters simply Andrea.
Most Italians still prefer to use Italian names for their kids, but there's several foreign names in the most popular list, especially among boys names. Christian/Cristian, Gabriel, Samuel, Manuel, Daniel, Thomas are all foreign.
Thank you very much Chiara! :D
EliminarYou are welcome.
ResponderEliminarAn interesting fact about this latest chart is that while Francesco has been the top boys name since 2003, its popularity had actually been slowly decreasing in the past few years. That's until the Pope got elected in 2013. There were 7.978 Francesco born in 2012; after the Pope's election the name got a boost: 10.553 babies, it had never been that popular before.
The female version Francesca was extremely popular in the 70's and 80's, and it had been steadily falling in recent years, but after the Pope election it rose a little bit as well.
Thought that was interesting to point out.
PS. Nicolo should be spelled Nicolò. :)
Chiara, that's really interesting, and I believe it's happening the same here in Portugal! Not with Francesco, but with Francisco (the only accepted male version). After all, the Pope is known as Francisco.
EliminarIn 2013, Francisco was the fourth most popular boys name (with 1.690 records), and last year was the third (with 1.718).
Remembering that Portugal has a small population (around 10.500), for it is a small country as well. 1718 records may not seem very much, but it is! :)
I just udated Nicolò, thank you! Chiara, you have come by more often, we could learn so much from you!!
